Collision (2011)
The idea of Collision is it’s an album about two cars falling in love – I still perform the title track at my shows sometimes, and sometimes I still say that’s what it’s about.

It was released as a homemade CD, and there were enough pressings of it that I ended up giving a bunch of them to friends of mine on the antifolk scene after I changed my artist name to Cannonball Statman – I didn’t feel like selling anything I’d made as Jesse Statman anymore, because it was a project that just felt done, at that point.
It’s me playing a nylon string acoustic guitar and singing, with an experimental ambient soundscape I made playing in the background throughout – some of the songs are more conventional, folk-pop love song ordeals like the title track (which is available on my Rarities compilation), and then there are some more unusual ones like “Woods of Mount Guardian” (which there’s a music video for online) and “Bionic Woman” (which Debe Dalton told me she really liked at the time, and I just remember not being sure what she liked about it, because I didn’t actually remember how the song went – I still don’t).
