Out of Print and Unavailable Discography (with The Band Of The Land)

The Band Of The Land was my first band!

We formed in 2002, when I was 8 years old and had just started writing songs and recording myself singing them on cassette.

The core of the group was me and my friend Beth, who I also made a number of short films with as Band Of The Land Films, notably The Scarf (2004), which she stars in.

Me and Beth wrote a lot of the songs together in this band, and we both sang a lot on the albums – Beth also played percussion, and I mostly played guitar.

We were joined by a number of other musicians in various incarnations – way too many to count – we know there were at least 5 semi-consistent ones, because that’s the number of Band Of The Land members who we interviewed about their personal relationship to seafood in order to write the lyrics of our song “Fishy” for our album Diet Band of the Land (2003).

As The Band Of The Land, we released a number of limited edition cassettes in 2003 and some CDs in 2004, before becoming less musically active and starting to focus more on our filmmaking projects.

I was in a bunch of other bands around this time, but The Band Of The Land was the only one that was really serious about recording our music – the others were more into playing live, which is how I honed my chops as a performer and gave the earliest live performances of my original songs.

The Band Of The Land itself never actually did a formal gig until 2011, when we reunited on stage as part of the first ever official Jesse Statman concert – this was documented in a movie I made called Band Forever: Live at Perch Cafe (2011).

Another fun thing about The Band Of The Land was all the different things we did outside of music, especially with our doughnut recipes and with our Newsletter, which also became part of the story of some of our short films – I wrote about all this in the page for the first Baseball Effect (2004).
