Finally Not Just the Two Of Us (2003)

I think this was the first actual Band Of The Land album.

Leading up to this, I’d done a bunch of home recorded cassettes of me singing my original songs and some Beatles covers a cappella in early 2002, in preparation to record some music with Beth as a duo, with me on guitar and Beth on percussion in addition to both of us singing.

“Two Of Us” was one of our favorite Beatles songs to play, so the name of this album is a play on that, because this album actually isn’t just me and Beth – we convinced a neighbor of mine to join in on guitar and vocals, so we were a trio for this album.

There’s a spirit of fun, mischief, and camaraderie on this that defines a lot of what we did as The Band Of The Land, and a kind of charming cluelessness that defines a lot of our cassette releases. I’m pretty sure this one was recorded on Beth’s cassette recorder (or her sister’s?) in my bedroom in 2002 – but like the rest of our cassettes, it wasn’t released until 2003, and it only saw a very limited release within the underground music scene in NYC. I don’t think we ever put this one online, though some of our later ones were available online for a bit.
