NV (2015)
The reason I named this album NV is because it has a version of my song “Boulder City, NV” that I’m really happy about – a slow, acoustic version with the open tuning I was using at the time that makes the guitar sound more like a sitar.
This is similar to the version of this song I played during the BBC Session I did in Merseyside on my UK tour with JD Meatyard the same year. The version of this song you’re much more likely to hear is the more upbeat one on Pizza Carbonara (2011), because there’s a music video of it online, and it’s probably the version I play live the most often.
You can hear my song “Manhattan, I am a Sheep” online, because there’s a music video of it – that’s the only video from this album. I think a couple of these tracks are also available on my Rarities compilation.
From what I remember, there are two different versions of this album, with two different track listings. I don’t know why.
I also don’t know why this album is no longer available online or in the physical – it was one of my more well-received mid-2010s albums, from what I remember.
To be honest, everything about this album is a bit contradictory, confusing, and otherworldly – kind of like the state of Nevada.
The name of the album can be pronounced either like the word “envy” – or just say “Nevada”, because that’s what it stands for.
I would not pronounce it like two letters, “N.V.” – it makes a lot more sense to pronounce it as envy – like one word.
