Your Hair (2014)

This was a special limited edition CD I made for my 21st birthday!

It comes inside a homemade lyric booklet, which is bound with a strand of my hair.

I think I made about 50 of these, and sold most of them at my 21st birthday party at Sidewalk Cafe, which was a joint celebration with Mallory Feuer of The Grasping Straws, whose birthday is the day before mine. The comedian John Murdock made pornographic balloons for the occasion, and there were a ton of really cool performers that night.

The album itself is mostly live recordings from my US tours and local gigs that I did when I was 20 – a lot of people who bought this one also had a copy of A Year of Cannonballism, which was my live recordings from the year when I was 18-19.

It also has a few songs I recorded with Brian Speaker at SpeakerSonic Studios in Brooklyn – this was an interesting part, because it came from a dream Brian had of me playing guitar in a sand storm – he invited me to his studio to see if he could recreate the sound of that dream using experimental recording techniques. It came out really well, so we put the songs on the album.

As with the other live albums I did around this time, it was intended as a limited edition thing for people who were coming to the gigs back then. I might reissue it if there’s significant interest.
