The release party, and what else we got up to in 2024

Hey everybody!

It’s Jesse “Cannonball” Statman making a guest post on the site. I hope you’re all doing well out there.

Things are OK here! Kind of exhausted, but fine overall.

We just had the release party for my new album at Centro Cultural Liliana Loth, the cultural center my parents and I started a couple years ago. It was a great deal of fun – and, like all the events we’ve had at the Centro Cultural thus far, it was a celebration of several simultaneous occasions – in addition to my album release, we were also celebrating the return to Oaxaca of some family friends who’d been abroad for most of this year, and we were celebrating what would’ve been my Grandpa Al’s birthday, along with multiple other anniversaries and causes for celebration.

In the weeks leading up to the party, I also released some videos I made of various life forms – a caterpillar, a European Mantis, and two incredibly high-energy labrador retrievers – dancing to Cannonball Statman songs while hanging out in various parts of the cultural center where the party was about to take place.

A European mantis chair-dances to “Find Someone”
A caterpillar dances to “Snow Globe”
Apolo and Xóchi dancing to “Courier Says I: The Farm”

And before too long, our human guests were showing up to join the dancing canines and insects – now the party was well underway!

My mom, who handles the visual component of the events, invited the artist Saabe to put up a show of her incredible work for the event.
